When God the Son came to His own people, the Jews, they refused to receive Him.

It was not that they were ignorant of His visitation, but they deliberately refused to recognize Him as their God.

Jesus was expressing His sorrow for Jerusalem because it had rejected Him.

Instead of being a city of peace, Jerusalem has therefore become a city of weeping.
